The best tool I have found so far!September 3, 2010 Leslie Ohl(Buffalo, New York, US) Borrowed the smaller version of the FURminator from a friend and loved it! Went to look for it in a pet store and realized that they were VERY expensive so I checked on-line and found it at Amazon for a fraction of the price (80% off the retail price in the store!).
The FURminator is so much better than a regular dog brush...the fine comb gets under the top layer of fur to the undercoat and does a fabulous job of deshedding while not too abrasive to the dog's skin. I'm not sure that it eliminates 90% of my dog's shedding as the package suggests but it is nonetheless a worthwhile tool and glad I have one!

Whenever it comes out of the drawer, the cat comes running to get 'furminated.' We also have a ChowChow that tolerates it when his fur is cut for the summer, but when he's fully fluffed, he actively enjoys a good brushing as well. 5 stars for sturdy construction, ease of use, and kitty friendliness.
less work, more furSeptember 3, 2010 gardner as a professional groomer I find this tool awesome for particular kinds of coats. I dont recommend this for dogs without an undercoat as it will pull out the "hair" on breeds who dont shed excessively and will cause pain to the animal. I also recommended that you do not "force" the hair to come out on undercoats by brushing too hard as it will also pull out the top guard hairs that may not intended to be shed at that time. Simply drag the brush over the coat and the hair will slide out. A good scrubbing in the bath will loosen the rest up. This tool will save you a lot of brushing fatigue and time however it is not to be used as a regular maintenece brush year round. Use it while the dog is blowing their coat out and thats it!
Shedding savior!September 2, 2010 RainbowEyes(San Diego, CA) Several months ago one of my domestic short hairs started shedding. It was spring, shedding was to be expected. She was shedding a LOT, so much that when my husband and I went to pet her gobs of hair would go flying everywhere and we would both end up with stuffy noses, even though we both have very mild allergies. Her fur was EVERYWHERE- even in gobs on the ceiling fan and the WALLS. This went on for months, and when I realized she'd been shedding this much for too long I got worried. When I pulled her hair just seemed to come out! So panicked and took her to the vet. He checked her out and told me there was nothing wrong with her- she was perfectly healthy, but just had a heavy undercoat that wasn't coming off with my normal brushing. He pulled out one of these babies and did a once over- I was standing there panicking and asked a few times just to make SURE that she was okay.. I couldn't believe all the fur that was coming off!! He recommended this to me, so I went home and did my research on it.
I ordered and when it came in I sat my kitties down to be brushed. Due to the reviews I was careful about how much pressure I put on the brush, and brushed like the vet did (not a normal brush). Here's the thing (IMPORTANT TIP:) you need to brush in short bursts (one or two inches, maybe more), and go back up and start near where you ended, and repeat going down the way the fur grows. You can do this in a faster motion if you'd like, just don't do it with too much pressure. If you just drag it all along the cat, I would imagine that may just rip the hair and just not be very good in general. I was careful about how many times I went over them, but never saw any thinning at all.
Lots of fur came off of both of them, and I finished up with a regular wire brush to smooth things out and get the extra out, then pet them lastly to get any stuff hanging around. Works like a charm! I LOVE this thing! Both of their coats are even softer and shinier than they were before (they were already very much so). The one that was shedding most NEVER likes being brushed, but she tolerated it. The other of my cats loves being brushed and loved this also, so no problems with them not liking it.
Over all I'm very pleased with Furminator, as are my kitties! No more undercoat making them extra hot in this summer heat, giving them digestive issues, or getting all over the apartment! 5 stars! I would recommend it to others. (However this is only for short haired cats- I am unsure how well it would work on a long haired cat.)
