Product Description
This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don't need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling.

For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other attachments include a bare floor nozzle and a powered hand tool that is also ideal for upholstery or small carpet areas. All tools are mounted on the front of the vac in a handy case. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

5 out of 5 stars Hoover SteamVac   September 2, 2010

I don't usuually do reviews but this product is so good I think I should let everyone know. Well made, easy to use, very effective, took all the dog urine smells out of the carpet and made them look like new. You won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars strong suction   September 2, 2010
jojo
This cleaner is very easy to use and works well - It is a little heavy to move around but only when full of water (and if the tanks were smaller you'd have to keep refilling - so better to be heavy than have to refill every few mins. and I guess you could fill it half way if it was a big deal). The biggests downside is the brushes underneath. They are round spinners and the are are turned by one of the brushes so I'm waiting for that to break and the rotating brushes to stop working. Best part about the machine is the suction - it has a strong suction and leaves the carpet fairly dry.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the occasional cleaning.   September 2, 2010

If you use really hot (I use boiling water) this machine does a great job of cleaning carpets. I do not think it was built for more than the occasional (2-3 times a year) cleaning. This is my second unit and the same problem that I had with the first one has arisen with this unit also. The brushes stop rotating. I am sure it probably happened because when I use the hand wand I did not disengage the brushes. Something I should have probably done. A little better design like brushes automatically disengage when wand is used would prevent this from happening, especially when this was a problem with the previous version. If you need something for the in-between the major steam cleaning by the pro's, this should fill that need.

3 out of 5 stars I loved it, until the clean surge broke!   August 31, 2010

This is the best carpet cleaner ive ever used, the most effective. I even learned to live with the rather mundane task of refilling and emptying the containers because it really made a big difference in my carpets. However, after maybe a year of every other month use-the clean surge brushes stopped spinning. I noticed one day they werent working, but went ahead and finished my cleaning..well, the next day-there were stripes all over my living room floor where the solution was sprayed into the carpet, but because the brushes didnt rotate-it didnt clean properly! I have since lent it to my sisterinlaw who also had the same experience. The only useful part of the cleaner is the hand tool now-which stinks because this truly is the best cleaner out there. Ive owned the bissell steam clean-and this blew it away!

1 out of 5 stars What a dud!   August 31, 2010
G. Heinsohn (New Lebanon, NY United States)
I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews: The third time I used this machine, it simply quit picking up its water. On a very hot, very humid day, I'm left with a wet rug. "Troubleshooting" in the manual told me to do what I'd already done; take off the inordinately picky-fitting water containers and try to reinstall....14 times. When I called the number listed on the machine (under the "do not return to the dealer" admonition), their computerized answer told me to take it to the nearest authorized dealer -- an hour's drive away. When I went to their website, "customer service" isn't even on the front page. After I located it on the page for the specific category of product, I found nothing helpful. Their customer service motto seems to be "let 'em eat cake."

The first time I used this thing, it made six clean streaks in a very dirty off-white rug (my Bissell had died, too, of a different set of symptoms): That was how I learned to check the brush setting.

Also, its capacity is WAY too small for cleaning room-sized rugs. It took about 2 1/2 refills to do my bed/bath, using gross quantities of their cleaner in the process.

After a world's record overnight delivery by the shipper, this has been a TOTAL disappointment! Even worse, the price has dropped since I bought it last month.
